Site Issues - 4/5 - 4/13

Why am I seeing ads for Starlink as a sustaining member, and why is the ad blocking the message box to type this message? I think these words are being considered a link too. This is extremely unusual and it took me a while to even write this message in the first place - I had to navigate around this dumb gigantic starlink ad.
I literally can't event click on the comment box without being redirected to starlink. The only reason i'm able to type right now is because I clicked reply to you. This is the final straw for me. I'm sick of paying for a site that is unusable. I've cancelled my membership. @WesL you're more than welcome to continue using spaghetti code and making constant excuses without any actual fixes, but I won't support it. I really couldn't care less if you're on AWS or self hosted on your own servers, and I don't think any other users do either. We just want something functional

It's legitimately dumbfounding you found time to add new, more invasive advertising functionality before fixing image posting. It's inexcusable actually.

Just another example proving that the internet as a whole is literally unusable without an ad blocker, and why I have no shame in using one.

While being a Sustaining Member is supposed to give an ad-free experience, the occasional intrusive advertisement still tries to slip through. Thank goodness for uBlock Origin!
What's hilarious is that I have an AdBlocker too (Stands) but I guess it just gave up for this one. So I have this giant Starlink ad blocking the response box that somehow got through two layers of protection. Insanely stupid, needs fixed ASAP.

uBlock Origin (as mentioned in my previous post) is the only ad blocker I trust. It doesn't collect user data, has tons more features beyond just blocking advertisements, and most importantly, it WORKS!

Although I do agree that this issue with a Starlink ad blocking the message composer needs to be fixed ASAP. I'm not experiencing it myself, so my feelings towards the admins aren't personal, but it's not a good look for the site at all.

Ok that's it, I'm done biting my tongue...

Again, let me put a disclaimer here that I am NOT experiencing this latest issue with a starlink ad blocking message composition, so my feelings regarding this are NOT personal...

But I'm starting to feel like the technical staff of this site are taking user reports of site issues as a personal attack.

Maintaining a website can be hard. I get it. I'm sure you guys are working very hard to make TalkWeather a good experience for everyone. But based on recent posts from other users, including DMs to me, it's quite clear that the vast majority of users here are quickly losing patience with all these bugs and broken site functionalities. Plus, I've heard some things over DMs that don't paint a good picture, like (supposedly) moderators refusing help from a software engineer and even deleting posts that consist of temporary fixes. That just seems like stubborn gatekeeping, to be honest. I can't say if this one accusation is true or not, but it's not a good look at all.

I'm not trying to be mean. I'm not threatening to cancel my membership. I'm just saying that the people maintaining this site should step up their game before they lose ALL of their users.

How are y'all posting? I'm only able to do anything by replying to something - I can't select message text with my cursor due to the invisible overlay - replying gives me just enough space to hit the post button. I'm on Windows desktop so it's effecting both mobile and PC.

As far as issues go, I've generally been able to deal with the primary problems; this is the first thing where I'm a bit dumbfounded by what exactly happened. I absolutely acknowledge that there are complicated backend issues happening so I really haven't been overly bothered by the attending issues thus far, but I do feel like it'd be great to get periodic updates on the status of things, like resolving hosting and plugin problems.

I just need to be able to share pics again to actually show what I'm talking about. That's all I'm asking.

I usually just take the screenshot or photo upload it to discord then copy it there click on the photo icon then the chain link icon and paste the link and click insert it might complain but it has worked for when I do it

apparently you might be able to bypass it with hitting the bold button of course that will cause your text to be bold and underlined but it avoids the redirect to starlink website then I guess can select all then un bold it
thanks for this tip man.

The fact we are having to find “work arounds” after months of technical issues on this site is just inexcusable. This site continues to technically decay. Bugs just continue to multiply, and I even think if certain ones get “fixed”, there will just be numerous more pop up. This StarLink crap is a prime example.

Howdy! That ad is disabled. It was an old ad that was an experiment. I'm working behind the scenes tonight getting S3 pushed through and that ad was one of the ones that came back from the dead. :)

First round of backups and upgrades went well. I've re-opened the board but there are still some processes running in the background so you may still see an error or slowness through the night.

FINALLY! THANK YOU! Now If we can go one month without site breaking issues I will enthusiastically resubscribe here. Idk if there's anyway to track the most active users from the last month, but they all deserve a free month or some sort of recognition. People were going out of their way to keep things active here by using third-party tools to post images and share forecasts. It's seriously a testament to how tight-knit and loyal this community is. @Clancy especially killed it with his high number of detailed posts leading up to the 5/05 event.

No worries.. if you can't support us when we need it most, we really don't need your support going forward.
And the horse you rode in on.

In this instance support is a two-way street, and it has been awfully one-sided lately.
