8.7 earthquake off coast of Kamchatka.

A massive earthquake of magnitude of 8.7 has struck off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia. A tsunami watch is in effect for Hawaii and a warning in effect for the western Aleutian Islands. I have seen reports of damage in Petropovlosk.

Pretty substantial tsunami surge on Kamchatka from various videos, nearer the quake so going to be worse there but definitely a rather decent tsunami. Now the tension becomes, how will that translate elsewhere?

It's very hard to know precisely how large the tsunami will be elsewhere further away, so it's waiting and watching to find out. Probably worth tuning into webcams or news streams as it draws closer

The earthquake was recorded at about 78 miles east-southeast of of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
