Greetings All!

As you may have noticed TalkWeather has a new look. After a few weeks of searching and customizing we have launched our new theme. One of the key things I was looking for was a look and feel that was easier to read, stylish and low impact to our bandwidth. I feel the new theme does all of that and more with some great add-on features like the background images that will eventually change with the seasons.

However, I'm sure there are a few people who are not a fan and that is totally understandable. We still over our older theme and another easy to read theme that you can choose from. Just scroll to the bottom of this page and select "Talkweather Theme" and choose from any of the available themes. Once you set the theme it will appear anytime you login (computer, phone tablet).

Watch for an upcoming photo contest for the next featured background picture. The current picture was taken in Arab on 4/27/2011 of an EF-4 tornado that started in the Cullman area and ended up crossing our path in the Ruth community. Photo credit Wes Lyons and Matthew Pylant.

I enjoy dark themes because they help my eyes during night time browsing. I swapped back to the original for the time being though because I had an issue with tables not resizing when I rotated my phone and it caused the page to present with vertical and horizontal scrolling, instead of the normal vertical-only scrolling. This happened days ago, before this post, so it may have been patched. I'll go back sometime when I get the opportunity and see if I can't detail specifics. Thanks for adding the dark theme. I'm certain I'll use it all the time in the near future.

Good to know. What type of phone? We have access to the developers so if there is an issue I can let them know about it.

Galaxy S5 running Android 6.0.1 - I attempted to replicate the issue but everything ran flawlessly.

I'm not sure how tight y'all are on bandwidth but swapping tw_logo_vsmall.gif to a .png makes it look significantly better with minimal increase in size. After 50,000 unique uploads the difference would amount to 259mB.

gif:
@ 3.02 KB (3,090 bytes)

png:
@ 8.09 KB (8,280 bytes)

Glad to hear it cleared up. I would love to say we did something but that would be a lie. Agreed that is on the cleanup list. For some reason the first micro version of that logo did not clean up well as a png (distorted) so I moved on to other issues that we could solve at that point. All the style elements are cached with a third party provider so we aren't running up the bandwidth bill. If you don't mind I'll steal borrow your version and trade it out tonight.

I've noticed that if you highlight text the highlight doesn't show up. The text is actually being highlighted(confirmed by right clicking after highlighting text) but you can see that it is highlighted.

Wasn't a fan of the new theme but glad the option was preserved to go back to the original one.
Thanks. In fact we will continue to update the default theme. In the event that we ever have an extremely high traffic situation it will more than likely temporarily come back.

As of tonight the logo has been updated with your version. Thanks for helping out. I've awarded you the coveted TW Supporter Badge :)

Got the problem fixed tonight and only had to reload the theme one time ;-)
