There's a moderate risk in the northeast today. 60% wind probabilities.

Slow-moving line to our north is probably dumping a ton of rain on places in northern MD/southern PA that got a good bit yesterday too.

If the 2000 outlook hatches that risk area then we'll be looking at our first high risk of the year and probably the first ever high risk for the NY/MA area.

NY/PA previously had a High Risk (the only one ever) in June or so of 1998. It was the day after the infamous Spencer, SD violent tornado.

Surprised they didn't go on and bump the 60 to 60 hatched given the magnitude of reports (though that would place a good bit of media attention on the high risk, it'd have been the first of the year) but also kinda surprised they went 60% wind. Obviously seemed justified in retrospect but 60% probs on anything is quite rare.

Some impressive photos and videos going around this evening with wind damage and super threatening skies over the northeastern states.

Sounds like there might have been a meteotsunami along the New Jersey coast? That's one of those phenomena I've always found really fascinating.

And yeah, we're getting dumped on here. Not as bad as further upstate where the storms just stalled.

EDIT: Just saw from the local news that they've already gotten 6" in Frederick.

A lot of people injuried, and some killed from falling trees yesterday.

Cool aerial shot of the aftermath of a hail storm near Wellington, Colorado. Posted by 9 News Denver on their Facebook page, and they credit a viewer named Jane Carpenter.

Great photograph

We had our first thunderstorm of the year today. Nothing to write home about but it's better than nothing. Still a month or two out from the usual period for any severe.

Severe storm swept through festival grounds at Bayou St. John in New Orleans. Stages have been blown over and live electrical wires are littering the ground. Widespread flooding is also occurring in metro NOLA.

There are many GFS ensembles showing a pretty active setup starting in June. The supercell composite numbers are pretty high.
