We need to watch the 10-14 day period closely. There are many indications of energy coming out of the west.

Euro says watch the sneaky system around the 18th. It has been trending southward and stronger with the wave and it's very low amplitude. If the trend continues that may cause some major problems. Moisture return is still not great but the Euro is also trending faster with kicking the NE wave out faster.

Naturally, just in time for A-Day.

and Panoply of the Arts Festival in Huntsville is the last weekend of April and you can bet something will pop up for that weekend once it is in range.

Also just in time for finals week when I'm in do-or-die mode for Calculus. UGH.

The three most significant severe weather outbreaks for North AL over the last 10 years (4/27/11, 4/28/14, 11/29/16) all hit smack in the middle of finals week at UAH. Then again, maybe not scheduling the semesters to end at the peak week of both the fall and spring tornado seasons isn't such an awful idea.

Been there, ran for cover twice. Mother Nature just wants to show the different shades of the sky and highlight the pretty little trees dancing.

Other big events that seem to be impacted the same weekend as Panoply is the Rock and Roll Marathon in Nashville and the National Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. I’m surprised the 2011 cornbread festival went on as scheduled when a few miles away a significant tornado went through Nickajack Lake as part of the 4/27 Outbreak.

Got to skip my advanced stats final at UAH due to the tornadoes. Probably the only way I escaped with a B in that class.

Now that I’m seeing the administrative side of things at UA regarding academic calendars, there isn’t much else they can do. Finals need to happen then for purposes such as graduation, “May-mester” classes, and summer classes. There is very little room for error with regarding to these academic calendars. Remember faculty have to grade hundreds of students, process those grades, and it has to have a period for students to contest and what not.

I am wondering with the extreme dry conditions in the west that we currently have, what effect this might have on systems in the coming weeks if those conditions continue to persist over that region.

Well, this Friday-weekend system is going to do a number on the moisture in the Gulf. However it will have almost another full week to recover, so we'll see.

With the overall CONUS pattern going lower amplitude after this system, and where that will readjust the low-level ridging and such, that will likely turn around very quickly.
