I call out piss poor governmental responses to disasters and humanitarian crises regardless of political affiliation. President Bush’s federal response, Kathleen Blanco’s state level response, and Ray Nagin’s city level response to Hurricane Katrina was a debacle to reflect on. So many things went wrong. Communication was horrific. The government promised shelters of last resort and failed the citizenry. When the government has one main responsibility, which is protect the lives of its citizens, and fails at it, why does it even exist?

Same goes to Obama’s blind eye to the 2016 Louisiana floods. He was golfing while the federal response fell flat on its face. It wasn’t until over a week after and hundreds of thousands of people had been affected he decided to address it.

And now Trump. It wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t realize Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory.

They also didn't see all of the dead bodies in many of the wars the US has participated in. Are you going to claim that the soldiers who didn't return home were not killed? Do you believe medals given to the families of supposed fallen soldiers are "BS" because there's no "real evidence"? There are no coroner reports for tribal deaths in remote portions of Africa - given the lack of "real evidence", do you contend that tribal members live forever? I can not guarantee that the count is 3000, but I am certain that it's well above 64 (or whatever the absurdly low number cited is). It's obvious that you feel the same way, or you wouldn't also question the issues with the power grid and financial appropriation.

Produce the names.

Stop it. You are making an money maker of yourself. You are allowing blind allegiance to a political party do your thinking for you. If this was Obama your head would be spinning off your shoulders. It's not easy to know exactly how many people die either directly or indirectly in response to a natural disaster. People go missing....it takes time to get to them...infrastructure is damaged which cuts off access to first responders, which results in fatalities. Days and weeks later if power grids aren't restored, people who rely on them for their health will die. That is an indirect death, Matt, due to a natural disaster. Death toll numbers rise as a result. It was a stupid, moronic thing for Trump to tweet out that 3k people didn't die in Puerto Rico. His ego is that delicate that he would literally deny these people ever existed than to simply regret humbly of their losses and to publicly state how the federal government is diligently working to make sure it is as prepared as it can possibly be for this storm. Whether or not he believes his branch of government failed or not is irrelevant, Matt. He can bitch and moan all he wants to his aids... in private. Tweeting this excrement in public is insensitive and immoral. Do you know why? Evidently not, so I will tell you. Because it dehumanizes those who perished. "....if a person died of old age just add them to the list...." He's just making stuff up, Matt. While he is accusing those tasked with determining the number who perished in hurricane Maria of making up the number, he's making up his own garbage. He has no idea how they came to the number they came to. Because this president is a complete buffoon. He doesn't care why or how or the science and math behind it. All he cares about is: a) how does this look to my presidency and... b) they're just trying to make me look bad. And even if that was true, Matt, even if that was true... the man is incapable of thinking how his words effects the families of those who died directly or indirectly of the storm. Whether the fault was the federal or local government's is irrelevant. He doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. He is unwise on so many levels and vindictive on so many others. And the fact that so many people keep defending every loathsome word that comes out of his mouth is even more loathsome. He has tweeted vile things before, but this is probably the most vile thing he has ever tweeted. And you, you just demanded that names be given to prove that these people died. You are better than this. I know you are. But I can't with you right now.

Not accepting arbitrarily manufactured numbers makes me an money maker ? We know the names of the victims of Katrina. Just last week 3000 names of 9-11 were read in public. Yet, I cannot ask for a list of Irma and Maria victims ? If it occurred deep in the Amazon I might understand the trouble in coming up with an accurate account. But it did not.

In less than a week, 20 people have died from Hurricane Florence. How can you possibly believe that only 3 times that many died in Puerto Rico, given that 1) It made landfall as a category 5 storm, 2) most of the residents were still there, as evacuation of an island is a bit more complicated that evacuation of a US coastal state, and 3) their infrastructure still hasn't recovered a full year later? What possible logic path can lead you to that conclusion? (If you need the list of 20 names for Florence, I can probably compile that for you)

There’s lots of spousal abuse during hurricanes, you know.

Trump has been oddly quiet on this Kavanaugh deal. Very unlike him.

The left needs to be careful with this deal regarding Kavanaugh (which, IMO, stinks pretty badly), it could easily backfire and fire up the right just in time for November.

The Kavanaugh ordeal is extremely fishy. Obviously, if this accusation has merit, Kavanaugh needs to go away. Far too often women in these situations are not believed and that is something we as a society need to overcome, but man this just seems......odd.

Jacob is right, though. This is one thing that could drive fence straggling Republicans from the couch to the voting booth in November.

I just noticed Trump sounds like someone took abunch of sound bites and crunched them together to make new sentences.

Since everybody wants the FBI to investigate, including Hillary, why don't they take up the Juanita Broaddrick rape claims against Bill Clinton as well? Or are we just picking and chosing which crimes to investigate as motivated by a political agenda? We need to hold public officials, past, present, and future accountable.
