Greetings all,

@Mike S kicked off our official Solar Eclipse thread today and I wanted to take the opportunity to throw out the idea of a TalkWeather Meetup event on August 21.

Nothing is set in stone but here is the general idea of the event.
  • Begin our day at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center with the dedication of Perry's weather station (currently sitting my living room) followed by museum time. Around noon we can all join together and have a picnic lunch as the moon begins to overtake the sun.
  • That afternoon our good friends at Baron Services have offered up a visit to their facility. Trust me you will love it!
  • End the day with dinner at one of our awesome restaurants for those who elect to stay overnight or head back late.
So the question is can we get enough interest for a Monday, August 21 event. I understand it is a Friday and many of us have kids going back to school. Baron is only available to us during a weekday but we can always work to fill that slot with something else if everyone really wants a weekend event.

This poll will close in one week. Make your vote known, ask questions and if this date doesn't work for you suggest other dates.

Dang I didn't even realize the 21st was a Monday. I'm a no go for sure on any Monday due to work, and really any weekday is hard for me to get away.

I'll be watching the eclipse from my parking lot I suppose.

I fully expect everyone to have the same issue but we will see. Any weekend dates work better for you? Taking suggestions!

Saturdays are iffy as well due to work. I try to take off but doesn't always happen. I'm going to be difficult to accommodate :) See what works best for everyone & if I can be there I'll be there.

I'm already traveling to prime territory in TN/KY specifically for the eclipse.
Yeah I'm gonna be in North Georgia probably running an event with the city of Clarksville. My excitedness is huge.

I too work every Monday, but I could probably take off. Any other weekday works though.

I could. We were planning on heading north too for the ellipse. However the issue as mentioned in the other thread has me thinking as well.
