Jason Simpson making the case for a possible ice changing to rain event in North Central and North Western Alabama.
http://whnt.com/2018/01/04/wintry-mix-possible-sunday-nights-best-case-and-worst-case-scenarios/
The best-case scenario is that we warm into the low-40s on Sunday (outpacing current ideas and modeling) and get some sunshine. Rain and low-40s is miserable, but it's not a disaster.

The worst-case scenario is that we could have as much as 0.25" to 0.35" of freezing rain accumulation in North-Central and Northeast Alabama and across Southern Tennessee and Georgia. The worst would likely occur in Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb, Etowah, and Cherokee Counties in North Alabama eastward into North Georgia.

Odds are, we're looking at something in between those two: a minor ice event changing to rain without causing a lot of big-time problems. It's just not clear yet how little or how significant this could be, so stay with us! We'll keep you posted!

Need to watch for possible severe threat late next week. EURO, and CMC a little more supportive than the GFS, but the spread on the GFS ensembles is so large I wouldn't believe much until we find out what happens with our first system Monday, and when the other (the possible severe maker) gets onshore in 84hrs.

The NAM looks a little icy around here but I don't expect much and the NWS isn't leaning that way either. Still worth watching though.

Things continue to look icy Monday morning for Atlanta. Lows in the upper 20s and previous moving in. Ugh.

Glad ticket will call is inside.

Check out this video from the New Year's cruise of the Norwegian Breakaway. They were caught up in the bomb cyclone on their way back from the Bahamas.

From al.com concerning the South Memorial Parkway road project in Huntsville...
http://www.al.com/news/huntsville/index.ssf/2018/01/a_tua-sized_miracle_for_south.html
... ALDOT is anticipating a much earlier conclusion than that, according to spokesman Seth Burkett.

"Based on progress so far, we anticipate completion of the overpasses this year," Burkett said. "In fact, it's possible we could see completion of all major work items as early as sometime this summer."

In other words, you could be in the final months of enduring what's been a two-year traffic snarl so far through the construction site.

Burkett pointed out that weather is the critical factor that could slow completion of the project.

Yup you might as well expect a blizzard, ice storm and active spring severe weather season.

Following the tried and true method of snow and storms, looks like there is a low chance some storm development across central and southern Alabama tomorrow during the day.

Got a few storms firing off Tornado Warnings East of Dallas tonight as well.

Glenn Burns is hinting at the possibility of snow here in the ATL on or about Groundhog Day.

Y'all seeing anything?

D.J. #1: Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today.

D.J. #2: It's coooold out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach?

D.J. #1: Not hardly. And you know, you can expect hazardous travel later today with that, you know, that, uh, that blizzard thing.

D.J. #2: [mockingly] That blizzard - thing. That blizzard - thing. Oh, well, here's the report! The National Weather Service is calling for a "big blizzard thing!"

D.J. #1: Yessss, they are. But you know, there's another reason why today is especially exciting.

D.J. #2: Especially cold!

D.J. #1: Especially cold, okay, but the big question on everybody's lips...

D.J. #2: On their chapped lips...

D.J. #1: On their chapped lips, right: Do ya think Phil is gonna come out and see his shadow?

D.J. #2: Punxsutawney Phil!

D.J. #1: That's right, woodchuck-chuckers - it's...

D.J. #1, D.J. #2: [in unison] GROUNDHOG DAY!
