One of the cooler videos from the storm. I've been through many hurricanes during my time in Louisiana...never once had a clear shot like that, or saw the sun for that matter.

Seeing the sun like that would be because of the time of the day that it came in near solar noon.

I've watched Brett Adair's video numerous times now. It is by the Grace of God that he is alive. I've seen plenty of people be ultra-critical of him, but Brett wasn't just doing it to get a shot, in my opinion. I think that the surge just came in so quick that before they had time to think after finding the road blocked, the surge had them trapped.

The Mexico Beach Police Department's Facebook page is heartbreaking... So many people are posting names and addresses of people they haven't heard from and want someone to check on. MANY of them are elderly (80s and 90s), have medical issues, and live in mobile homes. I fear the death toll will go way up in the coming days.

Some of the pictures from Mexico Beach look like pictures of the tsunami damage in Indonesia a couple of weeks ago.

Bad stuff. Mexico Beach certainly looks like what a Cat 5 can do. Thank God the surge appears to have been about half of what was predicted or we'd be looking at sand, dirt, and a few pieces of wood.

Obviously I could be wrong, but I think post-analysis will make Michael a Cat 5. That's not what is important right now but this is a very impressive comparison. Michael wasn't a large Hurricane like Maria or even Irma but he was INTENSE. Doubt many of us will ever see one that intense landfall in the Gulf in our lifetimes. Heck, perhaps not in CONUS.

Anybody ever hear if they found the storm chaser in Mexico Beach that went missing? Saw a couple posts on twitter asking for help locating him.

I think it will attain Cat 5 after reanalysis as well. That said Im sure we will see another hurricane rivaling Michael in our lifetimes. It probably wont be in the GOM but its been 26 years since our last Cat 5, so hopefully many of us will be alive in 30 years.
