FOX 6 on their weather blog is now saying that peak wind gusts with the storm, mainly Monday and Monday night, include: Auburn 78 mph, Anniston 62 mph, Ft. Payne 52 mph, Birmingham 44 mph, and Montgomery 60 mph. Gusts will be higher on ridge tops, so if this track holds, this will be a significant event here in Alabama. Winds will be even higher in Georgia, with gusts near 80 mph from Macon to Atlanta.

Now saying go get those batteries and flashlights and prepare for power outages. http://birmingham.raycomweather.com/2017/09/hurricane-irma-and-alabama-effects.html?

Not a good sign, the longer the center of Irma stays out in the water, the long it keeps its strength. Meaning higher winds, rains, and impacts for Alabama.

Ok, so now it's moving west north west and I saw the wind expectations for Birmingham, Montgomery, Auburn for Monday. The Weather Channel even shows tropical storm weather forecast for all these counties above the Alabama coastal counties. I know I've seen a "map" that shows Mobile Co. with probable 37 mph winds...What gives? Coastal AL and the FL panhandle are west north west of Irma. #confused

Looking a bit more healthy on radar/satellite. She's trying to shake double eye wall right now and is getting pretty close. Gaining some latitude from Cuba now, too, with just a very small part of the SW core over one of those islands.

I honestly don't know what to expect in Metro ATL
anymore. All local Mets saying different things. Nothing at all, to something, to Opal comparisons...ugh

Who's saying nothing at all?

One thing I definitely don't miss at all from living down there is the annoying ATL mets.

My daughter is already having labor pains (she's been having a difficult pregnancy, hence the lack of participation from me for a while), she's due in a few weeks but I'm thinking if this thing comes closer her (our) way if the pressure may send her into full labor!!

I'm wx geeking and freaking over this storm and this hurricane season!!

My wife was due with our first child on within just a few days of Frederick hitting Mobile. We spent the night at the Mobile Infirmary and she delivered a week and a half later. There were several babies born there that night. It was quite an experience. Our daughter is 37 now. Blessings to you and your daughter.

Thinking game on tonight. COC removed from the Cuban coast with some serious SST's in the straits. More room with potentially more of a west jog before making that 'so-called' turn. Hell. who knows. Per infared, cloud tops cooling rapidly again.....

I gotta give credit to the Euro, and even the GFS for doing so well modeling this hurricane track from the get-go. Even though it wasn't perfect with the east trend a couple days ago and the Cuba interaction, they did really well with the track way back to when Irma was a tropical storm.

Edit: on satellite Irma is looking a lot healthier than earlier today. 00z GFS is initializing and tanks the pressure overnight.

Do I recall correctly that the Florida Big Bend region doesn't get as many landfalling hurricanes, climatologically? I realize Irma's track is relatively rare.

That strengthening on the GFS seems a bit, uh, much. Took in some more dry air a bit ago and she's more or less just siting on herself right now. I'll honestly be surprised if I wake up in the morning to anything more than a strong Cat 3.
