That Ft. Walton video is exhibit A as to how you can get killed well outside the area of influence from the visible tornado. Watch from about 1:20 as the tornado exits onto the water and there is still a lot of land debris with it. Some of it is hitting well ahead and outside the circulation and some of it is pretty large. The splashes give a good indication the type of damage it might do to someone standing around looking at it or even in a car.

This is a crude piecing together of about 2 seconds of video to capture more of the area. In about 2 seconds time you can see all of the debris I posted here hit the water well outside the main funnel. The huge splash on the right, I believe is a roof. The left side of this image was scanned to very briefly but fortunately a lot was hitting the water well ahead of the tornado. Just amazing and very informative!

That is actually a really valuable video because you can clearly see the wind field over the water and as you mentioned how much and how far the debris can travel with enough force to cause injuries or death.

I don't think I have ever seen a tornado video where that influence was so obvious. The water exposes everything.

You don't have always have to have a watch or Warning to get a Tornado. Had I stepped outside, I probably could have seen something but instead I was watching GRLEVEL2 as this storm moved right over Daleville and was glad the rotation wasn't bad enough for TWC, WTVY, Sirens nor my phone to warn of a Tornado nearby considering the radar appearance but it later dropped a very weak tornado anyway even without any kind of alert being triggered!

Dale County Tornado

The above image and info was from this page which also includes NWS radar for Ft Rucker

This radar image was a few minutes before the minimal Tornado touched down But GRLEVEL2 looked a good bit clearer showing the rotation
