over the watch area through Friday morning. Yet another storm
system will slide through over the weekend and will monitor
closely for an extension of the watch.

* Those with interests in flood prone or low lying areas, and
along local rivers in north and west central Alabama, should be
ready to take action if water levels rise.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on

It's fine to post however if the message is long feel free to use the quote button and it will be easy to collapse. Long posts make for a lot of scrolling for those on phones. You are also welcome to just grab the first paragraph since NWS is normally really good at summarizing their message right off the bat.

While people are focused on the severe threat Saturday, WPC has outlined portions of AL, MS, and TN for a high risk of excessive rainfall.

It’s fascinating how the rain just keeps training up from the sw. This boundary must really be stalled for good.

The Tennessee River at Florence is expected to crest near 26 feet Sunday which is only one foot shy of moderate flood stage and 4 foot shy of the great 1973 flood crest.

We've had a ton of rain here in Florence but I think there's been even more just north and west of us. Does anyone know the storm totals for Florence? Iuka? Selmer? Savannah? Collinwood? Booneville?

This will be a top 5 crest for the Tennessee River at Florence. Muscle Shoals has invested thousands if not millions of dollars in flood control over the years. This would be a huge disaster for the city had they not done that. I do know that most of the buildings in Spring Park in Tuscumbia have water in them as well as a couple homes and a few businesses.

Multiple homes now being impacted accross the Shoals. Some evacuations and water rescues have taken place. Guaranteed top 5 crest at Florence now. Might push top 2-3.

Tennessee River at Whitesburg expected to get to near 24.7ft possibly higher. That'll make it in the top two or three recorded crests, 1973 being the #1 listed at 26.1ft

There was a flood at Whitesburg in the early 2000's that got up to Green Cove Road. I am less than a mile north of Green Cove so we're watching with interest. I seriously doubt it reaches us but we'll be watching a little closer now.

Wow... so that means it will beat the 1973 flood

The 1973 Flood was epic on the Tombigbee River in Northern MS. I was young but it was incredible how much was covered by water.

I remember my uncle coming home in Amory from working 2nd shift in Tupelo. His face was white and he was shaking. He said the water was rising on both sides and coming over the road on a long stretch of Hwy 6 and when he came across the bridge into Amory the water was just starting to come over the bridge. He said it was dumb for him to do it but it was dark, raining and he was just trying to get home and all he could see was water everywhere.
