Recon is not finding winds anywhere close to the last advisory. She's likely a cat 2 right now and continuing weakening. But remember that unnamed tropical disturbance that flooded South Louisiana in August 2016...yeah, wasn't named and caused $10 billion in damage. You just need a slow-moving tropical system to cause big problems.

Thank 95L for making Florence a shell of her former self. This just goes to show how we still don't know much with regards to intensity forecasts.

What a remarkable fall. Yesterday, it was believed she’d make a run at Cat. 5 this afternoon, instead she weakened greatly.

I wouldn't count her out just yet. I can't load any GOES-16 imagery due to sever overload but it sounds like those who can see it say she's getting her act together again and she's doing it fast. Wouldn't be surprised to wake up to a significantly more impressive hurricane.

Well ..

As of this morning, it looks as though ATL Metro is in pretty good shape, as compared to yesterday morning.

Microwave imagery is showing an open eyewall on the SE side (doesn't appear any more organized than the last 24 hours). Visible imagery is great and all, but it can be misleading.

Recon is reporting an open NE eyewall. Florence is struggling to mix out the dry air.

Obs seen to indicate this is an 80-85kt storm at best right now unless they find something else.
