I am. Arpaio was convicted by a lone judge. Why was he not allowed to have a jury trial ?

By Arizona law a bench trial was legal because Arpaio violated a court order.

Political prosecution by Obama and Holder. Should mayors of sanctuary cities be in jail ?

Are you aware of how bad of a guy he is?

I am. Arpaio was convicted by a lone judge. Why was he not allowed to have a jury trial ?

Why didn't Arpaio let the people he arrested see a judge? Why did he not let US Citizens that he arrested and accused of being illegal prove their identity?

Did Arpaio let immigrants go see immigration judges? Did he care if the person had a stay or removal when he tried to hand them over to ICE?

What about the dozens of non-immigration cases in which Arpaio had people illegally arrested for reporting on him, requesting information from his department, being an activist, or being a politician that didn't agree with his means and methods? Did any of them get to see a jury before Arpaio had them arrested on felonies? You know Maricopa County paid out in excess of 100 million dollars due to Arpaio's illegal arrests?

Guess what, those people he illegally arrested now have to answer YES when asked if they've ever been arrested. They also have to answer YES when asked if they've ever been arrested, charged, or convicted of felony. He had people arrested and charged with attempted murder for publishing unfavorable news articles that referenced the neighborhood he lived in.

I guess you are going to ignore all of that, right? What about the rights of those people? What about the political prosecutions that Arpaio's enemies and victims. If you arrest and detain a US Citizen for months that's kidnapping. Arpaio should do a decade on that charge alone.

Too many people only see this through an immigration lense. Arpaio is a very bad guy who screwed over MANY non-immigrants for simply having the audacity to disagree with him or write about him.

Do you really hate Mexicans so much that you'll ignore the DOZENS of cases in which Maricopa County had to pay millions of dollars in settlements for false & illegal arrests, harassment, destruction of evidence, etc?

All this is on the record. You can go read the court cases. Arpaio never denied any of what I just mentioned. He reveled in it. Said he was just doing his job and anyone that got in the way was an enemy of collateral damage.

I haven't even mentioned the deaths in his jail due to refusing to allow inmates life-sustaining medication or medical treatment. Diabetic died due to lack of insulin. Cancer patients died due to being refused transfer to medical facility or medical jail/prison.

By the way, to conduct some of the illegal profiling arrests that he had his deputies make, Arpaio willfully disobeyed and flouted Federal Court orders, and disbanded the sex crimes unit that focused on child molestation so that more illegal immigrants could be profiled. This is a FACT. Over 400 cases were dropped due to lack of investigation, lack of an arrest, lost evidence, etc. He later apologized for this, so he's admitted that it happened.

This is just basic Constitutional stuff. Arpaio doesn't have jurisdiction to enforce Federal law. A Federal Judge told him to stop what he was doing. He didn't. He even bragged about it. The Federal Court Judge went out of his way to cut Arpaio a break and allow him a soft-landing(a Republican, George HW nominee, Scalia fan, and Conservative Federal Judge).

You can read this for the details on that:

Arpaio kept at it, so his case was referred to the DOJ. They agreed to prosecute. Had they not the case still would've gone to trial, but the Judge would have had to appoint a private attorney to prosecute. Criminal Contempt is serious. Obama DOJ didn't play a role here. They couldn't dismiss or affect the charge. And, per Rule 42, it was going to be prosecuted. Finally, Obama DOJ didn't handle his trial. The Trump DOJ under Jeff Sessions prosecuted the case. Why didn't Jeff Sessions stop the prosecution if it was political? Is he pro illegal immigration?

Your argument literally doesn't make sense. Why would Jeff Sessions undertake a political prosecution for Obama???

Obama and Holder did not prosecute Arpaio. Trump and Sessions did. Get your facts straight. Why didn't Sessions drop it if it was political? You don't think he was aware of the case? At the very least he could have asked OPR to review the case. That would have significantly delayed the trial or Arpaio's attorney could have filed a speedy trial motion and gotten the charges dismissed potentially. Why didn't Sessions do any of that?

Strange that Jeff Sessions is suddenly undertaking political conspiracies with Jeff Sessions.

Yes, I am very much aware what bad guys Barack Obama and Eric Holder are !

You mean Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions. Obama and Holder were not in office when Arpaio was prosecuted just about a month ago. Are you saying Trump works for Obama and Sessions for Holder? I'm confused...

Trump's Democrat side is finally coming out.

He punted on DACA. All Conservatives except for Miller are pretty much gone. It's been obvious from the start that's Trump's "the media is dishonest" ploy was a way to get his base to only believe him and ignore what anyone else says. So, when he works with Democrats to pass a Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill with complete and total amnesty for all, and the border wall construction is "started" immediately, but only partially funded until 2020, his base will believe he just solved the illegal immigration problem. They will likely incorporate Cotton's RAISE Act to sharply reduce legal immigration, but it will likely be phased in with most of it taking effect from 2018 - 2020. Why? Because then Democrats will have the Senate and possibly the House as well, and they will just stall the rest of Trump's agenda, including ACA reform, tax cuts, etc until 2020. Then, if a Democrat wins against an extremely unpopular Trump, they can just use procedural stuff to reverse the RAISE act immigration restrictions, remove border wall funding, and then they have exactly what they wanted in the first place but couldn't get done under Obama.

What's hilarious is I guarantee you that if the Dems have the House, Senate, and the Oval Office that they will immediately kill the filibuster.

I honestly can't wait to watch all the Trump supporters reflect back on how they voted for a con artist that gave Democrats major policy achievements, passed zero of his own, and kneecapped the GOP for at least a decade or two.

People were warned. They didn't listen.

Get used to that. Trump's been attacking McConnell, Ryan, and the GOP for a reason. He's now going to be able to get to work passing all the legislation the Democrats want because the Republican base will DEMAND it. This is literally hilarious. The GOP base is going to blindly follow Trump into implementing the Democrats agenda because Schumer is going to snow the President and work his fellow New Yorker angle.

Huh. That's interesting. So odd that Trump won't listen to anyone in the GOP and that he punted DACA to Congress knowing they'd be under immense press to legislate it legally and he wouldn't have to take the political hit for it. I wonder if Schumer is the one who told him to do it that way?

Are you enjoying all the winning yet, Matt? You didn't want amnesty so badly that you ended up voting for the only guy that can get it done, and you and all the other heavy Trumpers helped beat up your own Party leaders and neutered the press so no one can do anything to stop it.

It was a major point of discussion for most of us independents and many Democrats/liberals early on in the 2016 election cycle that Trump historically believed and agreed with democratic agendas.. and we couldn't figure out why he was running on a republican platform... Most of us decided that he ran with conservative ideology because it was the best chance he had of winning the election. And it worked.
I believe if Trump was unconstrained he would certainly revert to his liberal ideology.

Matt,

As someone who is very concerned with our national debt, and strongly believes in the Congress exercising their power of the purse, this must make you angry:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/amph...ee-to-pursue-plan-to-repeal-the-debt-ceiling/

This is essentially admitting we will never again have a balanced budget or attack our national debt. Instead, we will just load up future generations with unsustainable debt loads from federal spending. This doesn't even take into account the debt from massive Medicare and Social Security shortages that is growing exponentially as more Boomers retire, our workforce remains well below the numbers needed to support Medicare/SS, and there has been zero movement to privatize any part of SS, increase the FICA cap to offset the lost workers, makeup for the payroll tax cuts under Bush, or makeup for under taxation/collection of FICA during the Boomer's prime years.

BTW, not only are Schumer and Trump best friends now, but Pelosi and Trump have a special friendship now, too. Pelosi said Trump promised her he'd sign a clean DREAM Act bill (meaning it wouldn't be tied to border security like the GOP wanted), and even tweeted out a special message to Dreamers at Pelosi's request that said Dreamers shouldn't worry and they won't be detained or bothered.

None of this bothers you, Matt?

What's the matter Rush? I thought you said it was all a conspiracy and fake news?
https://www.yahoo.com/news/rush-limbaugh-says-hurricane-irma-141627581.html

That is an unfair characterization of what Rush actually said. That is...that some people exploit natural disasters to politicize and push an agenda or a cause, which is true. If one was to actually listen to what he said or read the transcripts (which I did) it's painfully obvious that his words were ripped out of context and mischaracterized. I actually take issue with a lot of things he says. His constant defense of all things Trump is eye-roll inducing. But I take issue with things he actually says, not on things he did not say. Of course he evacuated. Does anyone really believe that he thought the hurricane was a hoax? I mean, really. Let's use some logic here.
