I'm fine with a warning. I'm not fine with them stretching it out 45 miles and almost an hour of storm travel time, especially for very weak rotation, almost nonexistent rotation. Telling people "A tornado is possible an hour from now," is what watches are for, not warnings. Warnings are supposed to make people act immediately to seek shelter. Stuff like this is why people don't.

Well, yes, i agree with that. Just don't think the "goobers" bit is necessary even if it not the worst jab I've heard at a NWS office. I'm no innocent at saying stuff about a NWS office either just to clarify. Shamed Baltimore, confirmed there was a tornado within that debacle and so I apologised

The warning length may be due to increased confidence that QLCS action may extend that far East?

Just in general, I think that threads should be reserved for days ahead and not the day of. No point making a thread for 2 pages of discussion that can fit in the SW2026 thread.

And if yesterday hit its ceiling people would've been complaining about the lack of a thread. Or you'd have a situation like earlier this year where a thread was made way too late and 10 pages of discussion were in one area, with 5 in another. I made this thread based on the severe weather potential, not the final outcome, which obviously was not known at the time.

I used to share your line of thinking, but then someone shared a big discussion that happened about thread policy a few years ago that changed my mind. The general consensus was that if a specific event is worth discussing in depth, it should be catalogued in its own dedicated thread.

The absolute worst outcome is a thread being made after something big happens. Then the discussion is in two separate areas and it's impossible (or extremely difficult) to track down all of it later on. The purpose of severe weather threads is to catalogue events so they're organized and can be found easily (even years later) when individuals are doing research.

But here's the thing: this day was outlined 4 days ago meaning there was better lead time for a reasonable thread. It being made yesterday also barely alerted many to the thread at hand, save for your message regarding it. This isn't a big deal to me, and i don't hold threads to a reasonable standard at all. If they're made, they're made but there was time to make this beforehand and there wouldn't have been a "lack of a thread" even if things went opposite which thankfully didn't work out. That's my two cents.
