We are always told that "WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL" don't you understand in reference to illegally crossing the border -- a criminal violation punishable by 6 months or less in prison, and a minimal fine. The two campaign finance felonies that Cohen plead guilty to, and said that the President directed him to commit, are punishable by up to 5 years in prison on each count, and up to a 250k fine on each count. I'm told that the campaign finance felonies "are so small they really aren't even a crime" by the same people that want illegal border crossers shot on sight for a minor violation of federal law.
It isn't about law and order and it never has been. It is about race, culture, and political partisanship. How can the President demand the maximum punishment for people that committed a minor criminal violation (a misdemeanor) yet float a pardon for Paul Manafort (who will receive, effectively, a life sentence unless he flips), and argue that his own criminal activities are so minor that it really shouldn't even be considered a crime, flipping on people isn't fair (and should possibly be illegal), and this is all a witch hunt?
President Trump has debased the office of the Presidency to such an extent that I doubt it will ever recover its prior prestige. He has also so debased and eroded our reputation and policies abroad, that there is zero chance that the United States will ever again be able to claim the moral leadership we once had.
I hope it was worth it.
