Severe Weather Threat May 17-19, 2025

One of the most... horrifying? tornadoes I've ever seen. I can't come up with the right words to describe the amount of dread I'm experiencing seeing this thing.

Ryan Hall is showing a chaser in a very bad location, basically right in the path.

Definitely occluding now but it doesn't matter. I just hope Hutchinson is spared from now on.

It’s rapidly occluding just before entering town properly.
I’m certain we would have seen a big pink debris ball if it didn’t

That is one of the largest tornadoes I have seen in YEARS, like on the same level at El Reno almost, if not exactly.

No doubt it’s still on the ground, a tornado of that size doesn’t just fizzle out like that.

The storm is starting to move into an area where temperature/dewpoint spreads are increasing with dewpoints around 60F (as opposed to the 70F where it came from). Hopefully this storm is finally going to die.

The occlusion process **may** have spared the town of at least a direct hit, however sections of the town likely took significant hits. The photos I’ve seen of this thing show a Greensburg-sized tornado, perhaps over 1.5 miles wide. Really hoping it didn’t just strike the town directly.

As mentioned in the earlier discussion about the tornado occluding into Grinnell, KS and the discussions on 5/4/07 Greensburg occluding, this thing occluding into Plevna might actually be worse than hitting it straight on as the conservation of angular momentum could make it even stronger.
