Anyone smell a rat ? I think John McCain is involved in this set up somehow.

http://thefederalistpapers.org/us/trump-jr-attorney-obama

You are smarter than this...

Dana Rohrabacher who is notoriously pro-Putin and anti-sanctions on Russia invited her to the hearing.

Saying McFaul is pro-Russian is hilariously uninformed. This is why these conspiracy theory websites you post always blows up in reverse. They make wild claims that are easily disproved.

More to the point, since Trump and his admin are incompetent, their strategy for responding to the damning story about Don Jr. was leaked yesterday to Axios, and was also mentioned in WaPo. What was that strategy? One, attempt to make the story about Obama and Clinton...hence incoherent and absurdly false and ridiculous stuff like the link you posted, as well as false equivocations of a former DNC strategist meeting with the Ukrainian embassy. Their other strategy is to attempt to discredit the NYTimes journalists that wrote the Don Jr. story by attempting to point out any prior errors or retractions that they've made. All this was reported BEFORE Trump friendly media, advisors, hangers-on, etc tried pumping out these nut job attempts to change the narrative.

It is so transparent that the only thing they can do to deflect from these damning stories is just invent crap about Obama and Clinton. Newsflash: no one other than diehard Trump supporters care. Neither one of them is President.

Take the ticket take the ride. Trump is President -- at least for now he is.

Are you implying that the article was fake news? But it wasn't posted by the MSM so it must be true.

"Maybe we’ll find out soon enough – but not from the mainstream media."

I smiled when I read that. One of the main things trump is trying to do is discredit the media so he can do what he wants. I don't think anybody can reasonably disagree with that.

Sorry, but the game of distraction by attempting to lob any and all charges against Obama, the Clintons, Dems, etc is transparent and not fooling anyone. As stated, this strategy was already leaked and is ineffective. That the WH and Trump supporters have shifted from "there's no collusion" to "there's nothing wrong with collusion" is quite telling. This started happening a couple of weeks back and coincided with Trump's rage tweeting -- likely because the WH knew the Don Jr. story was about to come out.

Why did Donald Trump Jr. not report his meeting to the FBI?

What other meetings did Don Jr. attend or that he knows about?

Why did Jared Kushner not disclose this meeting (along with other meetings he did not disclose) as required under federal law when completing his SF-86?

Since Kushner violated federal law by giving untrue answers on his SF-86, has the Trump White House made sure his security clearance is suspended?

Why does Donald Trump claim he knew nothing about the meeting when his top 3 advisers attended the meeting, and the foreign national who setup the meeting is so familiar with Trump that he knows: He doesn't use e-mail, and that to get a message to Trump you have to email his secretary, Rhona Graff?

What does the President know and when did he know it?

Why was WH staff involved in crafting Don Jr.'s initial media responses to the first two NYTimes stories? Does Don Jr. hold a government position that the American people have not been informed about?

Why have numerous Trump officials and family members lied (in some cases under oath or on a federal form) about meetings and contacts with Russia foreign nationals -- many whom have extensive links to Russian intelligence -- including, but not limited to: Roger Stone, Carter Page, Paul Manafort, Jeff Sessions, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Jr., Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen, etc?

Why have some of the aforementioned individuals refused to testify before Congress, and Congress has had to resort to subpoenas to get them to testify about their supposedly innocent and innocuous behavior?

Is there anything that Trump or his people can do that would cause you to reconsider your support (the answer on this one is already clear)?

After we get answers to those questions and Trump comes clean and resigns, then we can discuss any wrongdoing by Obama or Clinton (which has already been thoroughly investigated whether you like it or not). Until then, any attempt to distract or change the subject using whataboutism or miniscule tangential links to vaguely similar issues will be called out for what it is.

Trump is done. You know, I know it, and the American people know it. As I've stated before, impeachment is a political tool. Trump's political support is rapidly receding as his already low popularity craters. Since he has continually been a hindrance to passing legislation, instead of helping it to pass, it won't be long before the GOP realizes they have to rip the Trump band-aid off fast and get Pence settled in so they can try to salvage POTUS, SCOTUS, and their majority. Because, is there any doubt that if Democrats take back the House and Senate that Trump will be impeached as soon as the new members are sworn in? Sadly, I think the GOP is just a couple of drip drip drip bombshells and idiotic tweets from doing it themselves. We all know they'd enjoy stealing the thunder from Democrats.

Either way, Trump is soon to be impeached and removed from office. He and his family are the epitome of corruption and dishonesty. All the slavish quasi-monarchial defense and praise from the kool-aid drinkers of the Trumpian cult won't change that.

Evan, we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this. You have your opinion and I have mine. You seem more than willing to see the deep state and establishment execute a soft coup against a legitimately elected president. How much more liberty and freedom are you willing to lose ? How many more trillions of dollars can we add to the debt ? Do you think John Kasich would have been any different than Obama or Hillary ? This is madness and it is getting out of hand. The attacks on trump will never end. Not until they force him to resign and then they start all over again on Pence. Go for it man!

For the record, I do believe the ties between Fusion GPS and the Dems should be looked at as part of Mueller's investigation. As I've previously stated, Putin's goal in all of this was to sow mistrust, misinformation, and disrupt our system of governance.

Did the Dems get dangled a FSB/GRU plot or unintentionally helped facilitate part of this whole scandal? It's certainly possible. What's clear, however, is that Don Jr. was stupid enough to take the bait and run with the idea of letting the Russian's help his father win the election.

Then again, we don't know if Fusion GPS was playing both sides or even what it's motivation was. But, we so know that this Russian lawyer, the people associated with her, and others all are directly linked to Moscow. Whether Democrat or Republican is irrelevant. Anyone that was collaborating with them needs to be found out, and it needs to be investigated. Which, since members of FusionGPS are being called to testify in the Senate, as well as Don Jr., there may be some answers very soon. But it will take time before we get to the bottom of all of this.

It also seems possible, if not likely, that Russian operatives were putting out feelers to both Republican & Democratic entities and Trump and his team were immoral enough, stupid enough, etc to take them up on it.

It will be interesting to find out if one of the reasons the FBI and McCain already had their hands on the Steele dossier from FusionGPS is because Fusion was already reporting Russian intelligence contacts from their lobbying contract.

This has never been about if the Russians prefer Democrats or Republicans. They prefer whomever they can use and will work with them. In this case, it has been very apparent that Trump and those close to him were very willing to consider pretty much anything Russia wanted (Sanctions, Syria, Ukraine, Diplomatic compound return, dirt on Hillary, etc). The major question is why? Are the Russians in the habit of giving free gifts? Or do they expect something in return. Everyone knows the answer to that. And, we all know that Trump and his family don't do things for free either -- they expect to get their beak wet as well. Basically, both entities are known for only maintaining mutually beneficial relationships, and those relationships are based almost wholly on quid pro quo.

We saw it in Don Jr.'s email. He was absolutely willing to make a deal with the devil and that they will do anything to win. And Trump has loudly bragged about donating to politicians to get them to do his bidding, and is obviously known as someone who puts winning above all else. He reminds us of it often.

Why would anyone believe that suddenly Trump and family no longer believe in the very core aspect that makes up their image? 70 year old men don't suddenly change their moral and relational proclivities. And is anyone delusional enough to believe Putin and the Russians are doing something for nothing?

One final note on this Russia/Trump collision situation: does anyone recall that the GOP platform on Ukraine was changed at the last minute at the RNC convention? Consider the timeline from 2016:

June 3rd - 8th: Donald Jr. emails back and forth with a Moscow resident wanting to setup a meeting with Trump campaign and "Russian Government attorney" that says they have dirt on Hillary Clinton, and this is "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."

June 7th - On the night of the 7th, after the meeting with the Russian lawyer is setup promising dirt on Hillary (but has not yet taken place), Trump gives a speech in which he promises major revelations in the coming week on Hillary's "corruption" and that he will personally deliver that info in a speech on Monday or something in that next week.

You can view that speech here, go to the 6:15 minute mark and listen from that point though about 8:05...

https://t.co/dYBXKYqHrx?amp=1

Notably, the very first mention of the foreign influences that took advantage of Hillary's corruption was...Yep, Russia.

It seems blatantly obvious that Trump had been informed about the pending meeting with the Russian attorney at that point. Why else would he suddenly promise a major speech revealing Hillary's corruption, and specifically mention Russia, just hours after the final meeting details were finalized?

If he already had the information he would have released it then because this was a major primary night speech being widely televised. He even remarks that he "hopes" the media will, cover it next week. Why would it need to be next week when you have a large televised audience right now? The only logical answer is because you don't have the evidence yet.

And, why would you promise a specific announcement and date if you didn't have anything to go on? Yes, Trump is notorious for saying I'll put out a plan or release this info next week or next month, but he never gives a day like that. And Monday just so happened to be the first major business day after the meeting on the 9th (Thursday). Trump of all people knows you don't release things on Friday because they die over the weekend. You do it on Monday or early in the week so you control the narrative that entire week.

But then...

June 14th: WaPo reports the DNC was hacked and says the Russians are suspected. This report comes just a few days after the Russian government attorney meeting. In fact, it is Tuesday of the week that Trump promised to release dirt on Hillary. More on this later.

Moving forward slightly...

July 19th - 21st: RNC Convention is underway, and the GOP platform on Ukraine is suddenly changed with an amendment suggested by J.D. Gordon, one of Trump's national security advisers. The platform originally said the US would arm Ukraine in its battle against the Russian military invasion of Eastern Ukraine. The amendment removed all language about arming Ukraine in an effort to better relations with Russia.

In fact, while at the RNC convention, J.D. Gordon met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, and then later proposed the amendment to the Ukraine platform that removed the language about arming Ukraine. In March 2017, J.D Gordon confirmed that not only did he request a change to the Ukraine platform, but he did it at the behest of Donald Trump and confirmed that he met with Kislyak back in July 2016 during the convention.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/02/politics/russia-donald-trump-meetings-ambassador/

July 22nd: The day after the RNC convention ends, during which multiple Trump advisers met with the Russian Ambassador and changed the GOP platform on the top Russian foreign policy issue at the time, Wikileaks releases hacked emails from the DNC.

July 27th: Less than a week after several of his advisers met with Kislyak at the RNC convention, and the Ukraine platform was changed to benefit Russia, Trump asks Russia to find and release the 30,000 missing emails at a bizarre press conference stating: "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing..."

And we are still expected to believe there was no collision or quid pro quo? Really? Trump promising a speech releasing dirt on Hillary right at the time Russians promise Don Jr., Manafort, and Kushner dirt on Hillary is just a mere coincidence?

A speech that NEVER happened because the Russians didn't actually have dirt (as claimed by Don Jr. & the Russian attorney) OR perhaps because Trump couldn't release the info without showing his ties to Russia because of the WaPo report of the DNC hack? That must be a coincidence, too. Just like how the platform with Ukraine was changed by people who had just met with the Russian Ambassador Kislyak, and less than a week later Trump is asking Russia for help getting Hillary's emails -- specifically saying if you are listening go and do this for me. Purely a coincidence that Trump promises major dirt on Hillary right at the EXACT time his son, son-in-law, and campaign chief have just been promised dirt on Hillary by someone introduced as a Russian government attorney.

Getting back to asking Russia to find the emails... remember that on July. 25th 2016 the FBI had said they were investigating the hack but declined to say if Russia was involved. The DNC, however, had commissioned a report by Crowdstrike that concluded Russia was behind the hack. There had been anonymous sources (the ones Trump hates and says are never credible) in the government saying Russia was suspected, but the only ones claiming that Russia was for sure behind the hack was Crowdstrike and the Clinton Campaign.

OK, so what's your point on this last part of the timeline about when Russia was concretely identified as the author of the DNC hack? Simple. Something that is frequently forgotten is that during the same press conference in which he asked Russia to find the 30,000 emails, Trump said the following:

When asked whether he would recognize Crimea “as Russian territory” and lift the sanctions, Mr. Trump said: “We’ll be looking at that. Yeah, we’ll be looking.”

And:

"...there’s nothing I can think of that I’d rather do than have Russia friendly as opposed to the way they are right now,”

https://nyti.ms/2ausQ98

So, just a DAY after the Ukraine platform was changed at Trump's direction, and after his advisers met with Kislyak, Wikileaks dumped the hacked DNC emails. Then, just a few days later, Trump makes it crystal clear he wants nothing more than to have Russia as a friendly ally, and says he will look at lifting Russian sanctions and recognizing Crimea as Russian territory and then asks if Russia is listening before asking them to find Hillary's 30,000 emails even though it hasn't yet been concluded that Russia was behind the DNC attack. How was Trump so sure that Russia could help? Why not ask the Chinese or the 400lb man on his bed?

Don Jr.'s emails aren't a smoking gun. The evidence of collusion and collaboration was always front and center. Sure, the emails and Mueller's investigation may help bring us full circle and give us all the details, but the quid quo pro was always already there for anyone paying attention.

But, I'm sure, all those things lining up perfectly are just a set of coincidences, right? Just like firing Comey had nothing to do with Russia until Trump said that'd exactly why he fired him.

There has literally never been a President more deserving of impeachment than Trump. His crimes pale in comparison to Nixon.

Both of those long posts were to setup what Trump said to the press on the way to France. This was the "off-record" chat that Trump changed his mind on today and wanted to be made on-record.

When asked about the Russian sanctions, and keep in mind what I said about Trump's modus operandi over the years of getting something in return... the quid pro quo he believes in.

Trump said:

"I saw a report and I read a report that Trump wants to take off the sanctions. I've made a lot of money. I've made great deals. That's what I do. Why would I take sanctions off without getting anything?"

Quite interesting that he admits to EXACTLY what has been alleged.

When asked if he knew during the campaign about the meeting Don Jr. had with the purported Russian government attorney:

He added, "In fact maybe it was mentioned at some point," but then when asked if he had been told that it was about Hillary Clinton and dirt against her he said no.

This is why the White House is scared for Trump to do press conferences. He always ends up being unable to stick to his original lie or spin. In this case, he is saying MAYBE I did know about the meeting, but I didn't know it was about dirt on Hillary. Absolutely astounding. The man lies as such a rate it is hard for the entire media to keep up.

Remember, the WH has strenuously denied that Trump knew about the meeting as has Donald Jr. Now he says maybe he knew, but didn't know it was about Hillary. It also knocks down his previous claim that he didn't know anything about any, Russians and he didn't know of ANYONE meeting with them.

Of course he knew! The guy who setup the meeting and sent the email was clear in the email that he needed to email Rhona Graff to get the message to Trump, and he said before I send this info to him I wanted to talk to you (Don Jr.) first.

Why else would Trump promise a big reveal about Hillary right after the emails to setup the meeting if he didn't know?

Newsflash for anyone that continues to be snowed by Trump: he's a habitual liar that lies so frequently he convinces himself that the lies are true.

Anyone recall the piece I posted about a month or two ago about some of his former attorneys? They wouldn't meet with Trump unless they were both present because he would later insist he said or didn't say something that they knew he said or had omitted during a previous meeting.

Just like the Comey firing, as soon as Trump gets around the media he starts letting the real story out. He can't help himself because he can't keep his lies straight and he is desperate for their approval.

It isn't an opinion, Matt. That's why this is so disconcerting. There is zero doubt that Trump, his family, his campaign, and others colluded with and schemed with Russia to get help to win the 2016 Presidential Election. It is just an outright fact and it isn't an opinion. The evidence is clear as can be.

Some people are never going to accept that because they have a blind devotion to Trump just like 900+ people were fatefully devoted to Jim Jones. And, some will refuse to believe it because Trump has so poisoned the well against any media outlet he doesn't personally approve. Either way, it is a cult of personality. I saw the exact same type of behavior and devotion in Venezuela when I was there back when Chavez was still alive. The parallels are uncanny.

I don't believe in moral relativism, so the debt, immigration, ISIS, etc is all irrelevant. The ends do not justify the means.

Trump isn't being unfairly attacked. If anything, the media has been way too careful with him especially dating back to 2016. I have faith that for the 75% of America that didn't vote for Trump, and probably a good 40-60% of those that did, continued evidence of his misdeeds will make his Presidency unsustainable and will result in a resignation or impeachment.

An update to this post:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ho-met-donald-trump-jr-and-the-trump-dossier/

https://www.buzzfeed.com/salvadorhe...spiracy-theory?utm_term=.vswDLbBJ2#.he6KLNmvA

As I stated, we don't know why Fusion GPS was working with two separate cases pertaining to Russia, but this information helps clear up a large portion of it all. One, completely separate clients were involved in the two cases, Fusion denies knowing anything about the Russian attorney meeting with Trump's people, and the whole idea that the Russian attorney was a Dem plant seems to be pure conspiracy theory. Remember, I mentioned several days back that this was the Whitehouse's strategy for neutralizing the Don Jr. e-mail release. Attempt to tie things back to the Democrats. They are falsely claiming the Russian attorney was in attendance at anti-Trump protests, they are falsely claiming she took a picture in McCain's office (she actually took the picture from an enemy's site to CRITICIZE him meeting with McCain against Russia's interest), falsely claiming that Loretta Lynch was involved in issuing the Russian attorney a visa (which is nonsensical since DOJ has no jurisdiction or ability to adjudicate visa applications), falsely claiming that Fusion GPS helped setup the meeting with Trump Jr, etc. It is actually an AMAZING amount of conspiracy theorizing. That's not to say the Fusion GPS is completely off the hook -- a legitimate question was raised why they were not registered as working for a foreign group, but that's now been answered as they were a sub-contractor hired by a law firm and not expected or required to register for the Prevezon case.

Again, I find it amazing how the same conspiracy theorists, fake news, and opinion only "news" sources pushed an angle that I told you all was coming. Even more amazing is that someone from the WH leaked it first that this was going to be the strategy, and we watched it in realtime play out here. Matt posted several links pushing some of these stories ( as well as the idea that McCain was somehow involved in a setup of Don Jr.).

As I said, I'm totally fine with Fusion GPS being looked at by Mueller. Better to cover all the angles and make sure of exactly how things played out than to allow more of this conspiracy theory nonsense in the future. I want to reiterate that no one should be surprised if Fusion GPS was offered something untoward during their time working with the Russian attorney on the separate case they had that well pre-dated the Don Jr. meeting and were actually in contact with the FBI or others.

Probably the biggest loophole in the whole "Dems and Fusion GPS setup this whole thing" conspiracy is that if that was the case why did no one disclose this information until well over a year later? You don't think it would have been just a LITTLE bit more valuable and important to disclose that Trump's family was meeting with Russian intelligence agents soon after it happened or after the DNC or Podesta hacks came out? You know... back during the ACTUAL ELECTION when such a damning connection might have easily led their candidate to victory and put the Trump campaign in an uncontrollable nosedive and made them absolutely toxic to the Republican Party? It is literal nonsense to suggest that any of these conspiracies are true for that very reason. Why the hell would you let Trump become President and get settled in instead of just releasing this a week before the election or directly after one of the hacking scandals. For instance...let's say right after Trump said: "Russia if you are listening... find Hillary's 30,000 emails" and BAM you release that his campaign Chairman, Son, and Top Adviser were meeting with a Russian Intelligence agent to get dirt on your candidate? Please! If anyone related to the DNC, Clinton, Fusion GPS, or that had an anti-Trump ideology they would have deployed this weapon long ago.

Just be aware -- more of this type of conspiracy mongering is coming. It is red meat for Trump's base even thought just a slight investigation or a bit of logic shows it to be patently false, illogical and stupid, and wholly inconceivable and impossible. This isn't the first time and won't be the last time that this type of propaganda and conspiracy theorizing is used to cover up Trump and his family's crimes. Remember, this is exactly what he did to get elected, and the same people like GatewayPundit, Hannity, ZeroHedge, all the fake news sites, Cernovich, the alt-right, the alt-light, Flynn and his crew, etc were pushing the same type of propaganda and conspiracy theory back then. Remember how Hillary was sick and likely wouldn't make it much past election day? And that she couldn't walk around in public without a medical crew yet random people in New York have encountered her walking in a park with just one other person or by herself? Or the myth that Trump self-funding? Or that he had a secret plan to defeat ISIS (there was no plan), or that he knew more than the generals (which is why he hired so many to run his admin), or that the Clinton were shady nepotists (which is why he's hired almost his entire family and former staff from his company), etc. This list goes on and on.

This is what Trump and team do, and they think their supporters and Americans are too dumb to realize it. After all, remember Trump's famous quip after winning Nevada? "I love the poorly educated." Oh does he ever!!!

Evan... your posts are fascinating on this subject. I appreciate all the research and detail you put into them.

Thanks, ghost. This is most assuredly the wrong place for it, but I really used to enjoy the banter here. Nowadays this thread isn't so heavily trafficked, but it is an outlet for me. I'm a Cold War baby (as many here are), and I'm just absolutely astounded to see so many people all of a sudden have zero problem with anything Russia does/says simply because we elected an unfit fool to be POTUS. I'm sure you've seen the poll numbers. Republicans have essentially performed a 180 on their perception of Russia & Putin-- and they were always the party most consistently against and confrontational with Putin's regime. Putin is certainly getting his money's worth by seeing the GOP change so significantly all the while watching Trump completely destroying the credibility of the USA abroad with our allies and trading partners, shredding our Democratic institutions, and making the American free press into an enemy of the state like he has managed to do in Russia. It is really just unreal to watch happen, and I'm not convinced yet this isn't all a dream or that I'm not in a coma. Almost every day I have to pinch myself because I simply CANNOT believe what is happening and that so many people are not only falling for it but reveling in these seismic changes to our freedom, liberty, institutions, relationships abroad, and the prestige of the Presidency -- not to mention our place as leader of the free world.

A thousand Iraqs couldn't create the damage that Trump has wrought since he was elected, and it is only going to get worse before it gets better. A very sad time for our country.
