Snow is finally falling here. Now to see if it'll actually stick.
Yeah, I'm holding out hope for that system next weekend. The snow went back to rain real quick. So far, we've been handed a dud sandwich.
Well this system was/is a bit complex and as it wrapped up with its circulation, the Bham area and pretty much I-20 in Central AL was the last holdout as we had the area of the low that was ingesting warmer air into the atmosphere and thus as we got precipitation, it wasn’t cooling the column we needed to maintain frozen precip and get the dynamic cooling needed with the heavier precip. Just positioned poorly basically whereas other spots got the cooling effect from the colder air being transported in by the route of the upper level circulation. So what's causing the donut hole over the Bham area? Still way too warm here for anything worthwhile.

Yes what Matt said! Lol! He used more intelligent terms than me.There was an inverted surface trough over Alabama with warm air drawn northward as low pressure developed. Eventually the surface trough became an occluded front as the entire system became vertically stacked/closed off. The warmer air was preserved near the occluded front as minimal cold advection occurred where winds were much lighter. Cold air was drawn around to the south side of the low as part of the occlusion process.

I think that we've now set a precedent for all winter weather threats from here on out. From now on, strange atmospheric conditions will always place themselves over Bham & a 30 mi radius while everyone around us gets snow but we just get a cold rain.So what's causing the donut hole over the Bham area? We’ve actually had a few snow shield deployments on the past. Had a Rob Smith Snow Shield that covered Columbus, MS for years and it spilled over to the East as well. Looks like that one activated for this storm too.I think that we've now set a precedent for all winter weather threats from here on out.
